Sense of Humor

If you are going to commit yourself to any task for a while, you'll need discipline, passion, desire and a sense of humor to keep you going. Not necessarily in that order. The cartoonist, sculptor, author and engineer Rube Goldberg had all those qualities. In 1931 the Merriam-Webster dictionary adopted the word "Rube Goldberg" as an adjective defined as accomplishing something simple through complex means. At Empiric we strive to serve our customers in the most direct and simple means possible but sometimes our days feel more like the cartoon above.

Brian Larson & The Sled Base

Our customer, Brian, asked us to make the Florence sofa look more like the Milo Baughman inspired chair he recently purchased from ever stylish Lawson-Fenning. So we did, and it turned out like this...


It fits perfectly in his living room with a nice mix of un-restored vintage heirlooms and new modern classics (such as the slate poly shag rug also purchased at Empiric). He claims his place is a work in progress but what real home isn't.

Thanks Brian for giving us that little push to go the extra mile for what you really wanted.

Fashion Bloom at Taylor de Cordoba

Empiric is proud to be a part of LA Fashion Bloom, a temporary boutique at Taylor de Cordoba in Culver City's Art District.


Providing lighting and accessories to compliment the featured designers ware's, the space has been transformed from an austere art gallery to a warm, rustic showroom reminiscent to me of Mohawk General Store in Echo Park.


Our pieces mingle with other contributors such as local artist and Reorganica designer, Tony Brown, and floral landscaping designed by Holly Flora.


Proceeds from the purchase of all items, including ours, will go to benefit PS Arts.


LA Fashion Bloom runs through August 8th.
