Maid Marian 2

mm.ex1

Roland Emmerich's gorgeous cruising yacht, Maid Marian 2, was restored to it's original condition when he purchased in 2007. Sparing no expense the Director hand picked deco furnishings and finishes to capture the spirit of this pleasure craft, originally built in 1931.

Once used to store life boats, the top deck has been converted for sunning while seeing the sites of Phuket where it she is currently moored.

Below deck, pieces from Empiric mingle with vintage furnishings and commissioned reproductions seamlessly.

Post refurbishing, the famous director shares his pride and joy with the lucky few who are able to charter such a luxurious ship. Ahh, to dream a little dream....

Customer Jan Sheehan's Fort Worth Texas loft as featured on Apartment Therapy today. Her "Biggest Indulgence" was the gorgeous modern bar cart she purchased from us, above. Also from Empiric is the brass and granite etagère..

Hollywood Tree House

What do you do when you have designed custom furnishings for a specific space only to find yourself moving? If you are customer Sara Newkirk you make the transition with ease. Perched atop Sunset this unsuspecting home has all the charm of an English cottage.

Looking at her pieces now, it's hard to believe they weren't designed to fit this space. Our starburst base coffee table was realized after Sara saw it at the store in aluminum and urged us to offer it in brass. Paired with a 78" Janus Sofa, in Perriwinkle Blue linen, it creates a serene seating vignette where she can kick off her shoes and take in the view.

Proving when you buy what you love it will work in any space.

Melissa McClure's LA Loft

No two client homes are the same and never has that been more true than when the space in question is the Washington Blvd loft of jeweler/goldsmith Melissa McClure. Melissa has a unique style of interior design and a passion for industrial objects so it was only a matter of time before we found one another. Her home really must be seen in person to fully appreciate but these images, via design sponge, accurately capture the vibe. Allow me to give you a tour...

Read the full design sponge piece here and view her Jewelry Alchemy collection here.

Brian Larson & The Sled Base

Our customer, Brian, asked us to make the Florence sofa look more like the Milo Baughman inspired chair he recently purchased from ever stylish Lawson-Fenning. So we did, and it turned out like this...

It fits perfectly in his living room with a nice mix of un-restored vintage heirlooms and new modern classics (such as the slate poly shag rug also purchased at Empiric). He claims his place is a work in progress but what real home isn't.

Thanks Brian for giving us that little push to go the extra mile for what you really wanted.

A Bloomsbury Life

Blogger and bookworm (among many other things), Lisa Borgnes Giramonti, named Empiric as a favorite home resource in a recent interview with W Magazine Editor's Blog. A taste of Lisa's impeccable style below.

Thank you Lisa!

New Oversize Prints!

Sometimes bigger is better. In the past we were restricted to printing only 34" x 46" prints but we now have the capability to make and mount prints up to 60" x 100". The giant sepia-toned 1929 image of Los Angeles City Hall is printed with UV stable pigmented inks, mounted, laminated and sells as shown for only $875. You can also get any of our other images printed large like this.

Steve & Madelines

What can happen when your office is walking distance from Empiric? You may wake up one day to find the majority of your furnishings came from the same store. We are lucky to have loyal clients (who have become our friends) like Steve and Madeline and think their apartment turned out great. If you want to get first pick of new merchandise at our store......get in line behind Steve who comes in twice a day to check for the new stuff.

Thanks for your business over the years Steve & Madeline. Lets wear out that nice bar cart in the corner! See ya tomorrow.

Palihouse

Palisades Holloway, a boutique hotel, built by Palisades Development Group, is "not a boutique hotel, and not a luxury residence". Whatever it is, we like. Their lobby features a lounge, a coffee bar and half a dozen nooks to hang with friends. We learned about the project last year when they purchased a number of things from the store. However, it came as a surprise to find it almost entirely comprised of our pieces. Most customers notice right away but for those who haven't visited it is worth a peak.

Our Plaza sofa anchors this sleek vignette. Also from the store a 3 cylinder chandelier, Travertine coffee table, crown coat rack, pedestal side tables and vintage stool.

Host stand at the entrance.

The task lamp and metal hutch are new pieces which can be found on our website.

Empiric's cane back bench in cream leather. Originally they were going to use pony hair bolsters but possibly that idea was scrapped pre production. Vintage framed print above is one that we had in our own home for a bit.

This is other side of the fireplace wall featuring our TH Robsjohn Gibbing reproduction arm chair, vintage floor lamp with suede shade and the mate to the 3 cylinder fixture.

Heather & Alex's Home

Gallery owners, Heather Taylor and Alex De Cordoba are dear clients, and even dearer friends, who we love spending time with in their beautiful Los Angeles home. When first shopping with us Heather had a few special pieces that were important to work around and the blend of styles produced a very personal and eclectic final product. We especially love the palette and commend them for taking risks with bold color. Heather has perfected the look of Moroccon Modern and, as you can see in the pictures below, she has also perfected a warm and welcoming home.

We look forward to watching this space evolve as Heather and Alex grow together in it.

David Beard's Home

David is a fun and friendly client that can see the modern pieces we sell outside of the context of our more scientific feeling showroom. As you can see in the pictures below, he has created a beautiful, classic and comfortable space that is not a cliche. Many of the pieces came from Empiric, can you guess which ones?

My favorite part is that David clearly enjoys the process. Well done.
