Empiric Showroom - Get The Look!
Empiric is often complemented on the atmosphere of our showroom, particularly in the main room. Part of our style is using color to create a vintage vibe, while still maintaining a cozy feeling.
Empiric Showroom
In the April 2011 issue of the online magazine Covet Garden, they featured vintage enthusiast Moira, and her 1940's/1950's home. We can definitely appreciate her enthusiasm for vintage style, but we also noticed her living room and dining room bare a striking resemblance to the Empiric color scheme.
So here our paint colors, once and for all...
To get our version, Empiric used Dunn Edwards DE 906 U1 Nasturtium paint, with a high gloss black trim in the main room and Dunn Edwards DE5653 Green Lane in the adjoining room
Good Luck!

Empiric Included In Taxidermy Article in Collectors Weekly
Collectors Weekly posted a long article on taxidermy today. Empiric was featured, and our own Annie Crowninshield gave her two cents on the topic.
It's really an interesting article about the evolution of taxidermy and its current popularity. Here's their little snippet about us.
"... Empiric Studio, which print maker Michael Towey started in L.A. in 1997, sells taxidermy and science-themed decor, often with a ’60s space-age edge. “An early tag line we used for Empiric was ‘Furnishings for the Home or Lab,’” says Empiric spokeswoman Annie Lockwood Crowninshield. “Our values focus on measurable attributes before fashion and trends; it’s a scientific perspective. The taxidermy falls within the category of ‘things you might find in a laboratory or academic environment.’ It shows respect for knowledge and nature.
“It’s amusing to have a store with an aesthetic theme that is so out of sync with the popular perception of Los Angeles,” she continues. “Our clients love to use science objects for decorating their homes as well as for TV and movie sets. We don’t feel the Mid-Century Modern and Victorian aesthetics are mutually exclusive. Most of our clients are attempting to reconcile their appreciation for diverse periods and styles. It’s challenging, but amazing when successful.” "
We obviously love taxidermy, but we love using glass display domes in our showroom too. It's a great way to feature your favorite specimens and curiosities. We carry an assortment of domes and jars which often become homes for some of our small creatures. To check out some of the great creatures on the floor right now take a look here!

Great Minds... Dresser Re-Vamp
I saw this post the other day on Apartment Therapy about breathing new life into an old dresser. We love refinishing vintage pieces, and dressers are some of our most popular items.
We actually had the exact same dresser at Empiric a while back, and refinished it keeping the wood finish instead. It reminded me that we actually still have some of these vintage pulls left... so I'm thinking we may need to "dress up" another dresser with them very soon!
In the meantime, check out some of these other amazing vintage dressers and credenzas we just got in.
Fore info on these dressers click HERE!

Empiric's Diver Print Spotted in the L.A. Times!
Empiric's Custom Diver Print was spotted in The Los Angeles Times last month. The "L.A. at Home" article featured designer Vanessa de Vargas and her recent Mar Vista project. Well, we think it looks amazing!
